New Marketing Concepts for a New Decade

“I can’t sell.”

“I can’t sponsor an opportunity meeting and talk to five or ten people because I’m afraid to speak in front of people.”

How many times have we heard this from our direct sales clients and prospects? Too many times! Well, I have some answers to these problems.

Furthermore, what is the perfect product to sell? All salesmen want to know this! But, think about it. What is the perfect product to sell? Is it something that one believes in and can talk about because of his success in using the product? Is it something that someone else uses and he, the salesman, is repeating their glowing testimonials about it? Is it something that he can demonstrate? Or, is it all of the above, plus some?

What I’m getting at here is that the Holy Grail of selling is demonstration. If you can convincingly demonstrate your product to your client, without any smoke and mirrors, that is without any tricks and lies, then your client will be sold and will want the product. It’s as simple as that!

But what about a product such as ours, where one is promising weight-loss and improved health. You can talk about this all you want, but if you’re not at your ideal weight yourself, if you’re not a picture of health yourself, how can you sell such a product? That’s right. You can’t! At least, you can’t without difficulty.

The perfect product to sell is one that you actually embody. You are the product. That is, you are a walking demonstration of the product and the results that can be achieved. When people see you in your new suit, looking like a million bucks, they want to be like you. They want to look sharp. They want to be the lean, mean, fighting machine that you are. They want to achieve the results that you have achieved.

When you achieve such results, family, friends, co-workers and even casual acquaintances will come up to you and say, “Bill! You look great! What are you doing?” At that point you simply give them some free samples or sell them some product. And so your network and your referrals will grow.

So the solution to “can’t sell” is to be a walking demonstration of the product and it will sell itself.

What about clients who love your products but who back off from being a distributor because they can’t hold small meetings and speak in front of people. Well, the big secret here is Toastmasters International.

Toastmasters is an organization that helps people improve their ability to speak in front of people. One simply locates a local Toastmasters club and joins. Then one completes, to begin with, the Competent Communicators Manual, wherein one prepares and delivers ten speeches.

The speeches are delivered during your regular Toastmasters meetings, to your local club, a friendly setting. Before long, one becomes able to speak in front of groups. It’s magic!

Toastmasters is a very supportive environment in which to develop speaking skills. My wife, Karen, and I belong to the Burbank Open House Toastmasters club, which meets at the Holiday Inn in Burbank on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Guests are welcome!
